We
finished construction on the Cedar Lane site! The house dedication for the new homeowners, John and Robin Farmer and their son Calab, took place on October 15. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped make the Farmer's dream of a simple, decent house a reality! We are now heavily involved in preparations for the development of our first 'Habitat Village' on newly acquired Skidgel Road property located at the northern end of the new city of La Pine. We hope to have the infrastructure for all 11 homes completeded in time to begin construction of our 16th house late next spring. This is an exciting time for Newberry HFH as we transition from building single houses on a single lots to a new world of developing a multi house community. To facilitate that transition, Newberry HFH has taken a major step into the future with the hiring of Executive Director, Randy Heise to oversee day to day operation as well as to identify and procure new construction revenue sources to enable us to better serve our community. Heise has been envolved with Newberry Habitat as a volunteer for the past 5 years most recently as Vice-President of the Board and comes to us from another preeminent local non-profit organization, the High Desert Museum, where he served as the Information Technology Manager. |
